Link Building Tips

As many people might know to gain traffic to your website it is important to have links pointing to your site from other web pages on the world wide web. Search engines are constantly on the look out for new pages or sites to be included in to their index, they typicaly find these new sites and pages by following links. If you have a large amount of links pointing to your site you will have a better chance of a search engine finding the site, evaluating it and then including it into the index.

There are a few simple rules that you should follow when trying to increase the amount of links pointing to your site (also known as backlinks).

Relevant links:
Try to gain links from sites that are relevant to your own sites content. If your sites topic is Computer Games for example then try to find sites that are based around computers, games and electronic entertainment.

Text links:
When asking if a site will link to you, where ever possible make sure that they are text links and that the text used are words that you would like to rank on, this will help you in the long run when trying to rank for important keywords.

Directories:
Look for link directories and submit your site to the most relevant category. These are looked upon as stable links and can last for long periods of time.

There are a few things to watch out for and avoid when looking for that valuable link.

Hidden links:
Do not hide links on your own site, pointing to your own pages. Search engines see this as a way of cheating their system and may punish you for it.

Link farms:
Do not submit your site to link farms. These are pages of links that point to various different sites of varying topics, try and keep to sites that are on the same general topic as your own.
